When sewing national cotton jackets, sometimes valuable fabric materials remain. This includes colorful pieces of Kihnu fabric, delicate romantic Vormsi fabric, and the magnificent Muhu jacquard fabric. The fabric scraps from cotton jackets can be used wonderfully to make some smaller items, for example, sewing one of them into a nice, national style pencil case made of fabrics from the island(s) close to our hearts.
We will embroider the Muhu pencil case with a sewing machine. This is how patterns were embroidered on folk costumes in Muhu at a time when the sewing machine was still such a new and luxurious machine that its existence in the family definitely needed to be displayed. We will decorate a Kihnu-style pencil case made of patterned cotton fabric with triangular peaks folded from small pieces of fabric typical of Kihnu cotton jackets.
You can store your stationery in a pencil case, but of course you can also store other valuables in it. The pouch is suitable for lipsticks and blushes, bracelets and pearl necklaces, as well as other cute knick-knacks.
All materials are included in the price of the training. The course lasts 8 academic hours.
The workshop will be taught by skilled craftsmonan and educator Aivi Tamm.
